The Lost Art of Reasoned Dialogue in Modern America

My friends, whatever happened to Americans' ability to reason? I understand differences of opinion, especially in politics. And when someone holds an opinion, they should be able to explain why, yet far too many can't or won't. I actually find it incredibly helpful to fairly summarize the viewpoints of those with whom I disagree.

It helps them feel understood, establishes goodwill, and fosters an environment for genuine dialogue. But I've also learned that many on the left wouldn't dare try to explain my views. Many are incapable of that level of fairness and understanding.

It's been said that maturity means being able to entertain an idea without necessarily accepting it. If that's true, my friends, many Americans have a lot of growing up to do.
