The Stack: NBA Pride Controversy Sparks Free Speech and Faith Debate
The release of Jaden Ivey from the Chicago Bulls has sparked a broader national conversation that extends far beyond basketball. After comments criticizing the NBA’s promotion of Pride Month, Ivey was waived for what the team labeled “conduct detrimental to the team.” But is this really about team conduct—or something deeper?
In this episode, Todd Huff examines the growing tension between personal beliefs and institutional expectations. As major cultural pillars—including sports leagues—continue to embrace specific social messages, the question becomes: what happens when individuals within those systems speak out?
Todd explores the role of faith in public discourse, the boundaries of free expression, and the cultural forces shaping today’s conversations. Whether you agree or disagree, this discussion challenges listeners to consider how truth, values, and cultural influence intersect in modern America—and what that means moving forward.

The Todd Huff Show – April 1, 2026
Host: Todd Huff
Todd Huff: All right, my friends, we are going to step in it today. And that is okay by me. I don't care. I am here, my friends, to speak the truth in love. Speak the truth without hesitation or reservation. Without. Trying to soften the blow. I mean, listen, we got to be wise. I don't like when people just want to say something. In a way that's the most inflammatory way possible. But on the other side of the coin, you have people who tiptoe around the tulips and they never get to the point. We're going to step, I know, squarely into it today, my friends, because. Because the radical left is not going to like what I have to say. And I tell you what.
Todd Huff: We're going to talk about. We're going to talk. We're going to talk about an NBA player named jaden ivy. Jaden ivey went to purdue university. Jaden ivy. Went was drafted by. The detroit pistons, number five overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. And jaden ivy. Was recently traded from the Detroit Pistons to the Chicago Bulls. And Jaden Ivy was just released from the Chicago Bulls. Monday, I guess. I think it was the 30th. And he was released. For conduct detrimental to the team. And that sounds pretty vague. That sounds like, hey. That's something that you would want to keep an eye on.
Todd Huff: If you're the coach, if you are the general manager, if you're the owner of a franchise. You would want to keep an eye on. Conduct detrimental to the team, by the way, because I really have a daughter. Couple of dollars. The kids all enjoy the NBA, but my youngest loves the NBA. And so I watch. The NBA with her. We've gone to many Pacers games. In fact, we get there early. We go down there. Well, she does. To get autographs. I mean, she's gotten. I think she's got autographs from every single Pacer. Maybe not the newest Pacers, but she has autographs from everybody.
Todd Huff: And virtually everybody. It's gotten to the point where she'll go will now go down to the opposing team's tunnel. And she'll get cards signed and other things signed from other players because she's out of. She's had a Pacers. To get to sign her whatever her cards and everything else. But I am quite familiar with. The players in the NBA. And I see a lot of behavior that's detrimental to the teams. Out there today. I think of Ja Morant. My goodness. I mean, there's a lot of people to choose from. So people who were doing some truly detrimental things to the team.
Todd Huff: I want you to tell me when we get into this today how detrimental you think what Jaden Ivy said on X went on as they are calling it in the media, a rant. I don't know it. Listen, when I think of a rant, I don't know. There's an emotional component to it. I don't know. If that's really what this is, but they call it a rant. And he went on a rant about the LGBTQ community and the NBA celebrating Pride Month. Oh, boy. We're going to step squarely into it today, but that's all right. That is okay, my friends.
Todd Huff: Because I want to speak, as I said, the truth and love. You know, the mission of this program is to help people hear and receive truth. And I tell people. Listen, we don't have it all figured out. It's tempting to believe that we do. I can understand if I'm in your shoes and I listen to this program. Every day. I might think. My goodness, they've got it all figured out over there. But, my friends, the truth is we don't. But I'll say this. We have had things revealed to us that are true.
Todd Huff: We have had truths that we've discovered or learned or however you want to look at this along the way. And as I've said on this program before, If you want a culture that embraces lies and deception and doesn't know the truth. Then you don't talk about the truth, or you replace the truth with a lie, and that's what we have in this culture. Today, my friends. And we're going to speak truth. To the culture that's very upset at what people like. Well, Jaden, Ivy. And what I'm going to have to say about this today.
Todd Huff: But listen. I genuinely don't care what I'm about to say or what I will say. It's not directed. It's based 0% in hate. It's actually based in love. Because again, what does someone like me have to gain? From talking about what we're going to talk about. Because it goes so counter. It runs absolutely counter to what the world tells us is true. And the way that we should behave and talk about these matters, we're going to talk about them. In. I don't want to say the way we're going to talk about them is the exact opposite.
Todd Huff: But the conclusions that we draw will absolutely be the exact opposite. But we speak this truth in love. I hope that people hear this message and realize that the truth is there, not because I said it, not because. It gets us any brownie points. But hopefully, hopefully for somebody, for multiple somebodies, it's either a continuation of a step. Towards the ultimate truth. Who, of course, is God himself. Or it's the first step, the middle step, the last step, I don't know. But that's what I hope. So that's where we're headed today.
Todd Huff: My friends, really quickly, let's talk about something important. That is your money. You worked hard for it. But is it working hard for what you believe in? At 48 Financial. To 317-785-1030 and you will be a member.
Todd Huff: It's free. A member of the Inner Circle. And you'll get all that information emailed to you about 5:00 Eastern each weekday headline here says Bulls Wave Again. This is the Chicago Bulls. Wave. Jaden. Ivy. After he called NBA's Pride Month celebration quote unrighteous. Ivy has also stated Catholicism is a, quote, false religion in recent video rants written here by Scott Thompson. Fox news. And so here we go. The Chicago Bulls have waved guard Jaden Ivy, following videos he posted where his rant about religion and other topics led to him calling out the NBA for celebrating Pride Month.
Todd Huff: The Bulls announced the move on Monday, saying it was due to conduct detrimental to the team. Ivy's video calling out the League. Was posted on Monday morning as he said it was unrighteous that the NBA would celebrate Pride Month. Ivy has been posting similar videos with rants. There's that word again. In recent weeks, While the 24 year old has noted in the past he deals with depression. Now I'm not going to read the quote from the video, which is what's coming up next here. I'm going to play the video in a moment. Skipping down a little bit in this article, it says Ivy also said in a different video that Catholicism was a false religion.
Todd Huff: Which comes as a potential issue for Ivy's mother. Niel. Ivy. Is the head women's basketball coach at Notre Dame, which, of course, is a Catholic university. And then it's got a little bit of information here about Ivy's he was the fifth draft pick, which I mentioned, in the 2022 NBA Draft. His numbers, making the all rookie team, all this sort of stuff. Which we won't get into. That doesn't really matter for our purposes. So what did he say? What did he actually say? Well, I'm glad you asked, because I can actually tell you here, because we've got it pulled up. Again. This is his.
Todd Huff: Now, wait a minute. I had it pulled up. There it is on X. Now it looks like he's driving. He's driving his vehicle. It looks like his phone is sitting in his lap. Or maybe on the console. It's pointed straight up. Straight up. You can actually see whatever vehicle he is driving has a sunroof. You can see the visor with the. Those big stickers they put on there. Telling you all the things not to do, all this legalese in your car and so forth, but that's the angle. It's looking basically straight up the guy's nose, and he's driving here. And he's got some things to say.
Todd Huff: And I'm going to play what those things are, and you can decide for yourself. If this video is conduct detrimental to the team. By the way, this was posted. I found it, I think through the Fox News article. But this is posted on X by NBA Central. I think the handle here is the dunk. Central. That's on X, but here we go. This is the video that, according to reports, allegations is the reason that Jaden Ivy has been basically waived from the Chicago Bulls for, quote, conduct detrimental to the team. Here we go. Well, we're supposed to be going. Why is it not.
Todd Huff: Reconnect it. To the soundboard. Let's try this again. Here we go. Okay. Let me restart it. The world can proclaim lgbtq. Right. They proclaim pride month and the NBA. They proclaim it. They show it to the world. They say Come join us for pride. For pride month. To celebrate unrighteousness. They proclaim it. They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim it in the streets. Unrighteousness. So how is it that one can't speak righteousness? How is it one night? How are they to say that? Man, this man is crazy. Okay, that's just the video. I didn't edit that. That's.
Todd Huff: What's posted. So what did he say? He said in particular, which, of course, is the part of this video that. One would assume the NBA has a problem with. He said, quote, the world proclaims lgbtq, right? They proclaim Pride Month, and the NBA does, too. They show it to the world. They say, come join us. For Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness. That's what he said. The bulls waved him. On Monday for again conduct detrimental to the team. He was just acquired from the Pistons before the trade deadline this February. He was traded Feb. 3 from the Pistons to the Bulls.
Todd Huff: He's only played four games with the Chicago Bulls since joining their roster. And the Bulls had previously announced four days earlier on March 26, that Jade and Ivy was out for the remainder of the season due to a left knee. Issue. Okay? So the bulls came out. With a statement as well, of course, about this. And their statement. I'm looking at it here. And this is in People magazine. Let me back up that video. There was his response. There's an initial. Obviously I can't play the full 42. There's a 42 minute video. Where? He's on his, what they're calling a rant here.
Todd Huff: But this know. His position the NBA. Is the NBA is embracing unrighteousness. There's a lot of stuff. To sift through here, right? You've got the NBA, which of course has a vested interest in the people that work for the NBA to not. To not badmouth their employer. You got the issue of free speech and the issue of religious rights. This is a religious issue. He's sharing his faith. You've got that. To consider. And then you've just got the reality of the culture. You hear me talk. You've heard me talk about what I call the seven pillars of propaganda.
Todd Huff: The seven Pillars are propaganda. Are parts of our society. Pillars of our society, very important aspects of our society. That had been taken over by the radical left. And these pillars, if you will. These pillars have been used. These parts of society have been used. To further the leftists agenda. And I talk about this regularly. I don't mince any words about this. Fact, I'll give you the seven pillars right now. Government media, big tech. Science. Entertainment, academia and woke business, woke corporations. And so the left have gotten control of these things.
Todd Huff: And then they subtly drip, drip, drip, begin to use these things. To impact our society. And listen, I don't want to go through all these. But I'll spit. I'll speak to entertainment in particular. When I say entertainment is one of the seven pillars of propaganda. You've heard me on here say before that. The entertainment that we have in this country. We've placed a ton of value on it. Some people live truly for the purposes of entertainment, as though that's it. I think for some people, you could say that they worship entertainment. It is.
Todd Huff: What can I get to be fascinated with today so that I don't have to deal with some of the deeper questions that life has to offer. Listen, I don't care if people have an inclination to follow entertainment. I watch professional sports. Already shared that. But it's not the meaning of life. There's nothing wrong with following a team or watching March Madness or whatever. Everything must be understood in context. There must be. There needs to be a little bit of nuance in there to give us the ability to understand and to apply when something is too much or whatever.
Todd Huff: But there's nothing wrong with entertainment, but some people truly pursue it. As though it's all that matters in life. They can't wait to wake up in the morning, go to their Facebook feed or go to the gossip column or whatever it is today. Right. And to find out what's happening. They seek constantly to be entertained, distracted in some cases from actually having to focus on the big important questions in life that, by the way, are absolutely ultimately unavoidable. But nonetheless, nonetheless, entertainment is a big part of our culture today.
Todd Huff: I've shared. You have the professional sports. You have. The fantasy sports where you have people who literally make a living. Off of telling people who to put on their fantasy team, which is wild to me. Then you have. Then you have the media that talks about people who literally their entire program is designed to help you build your fantasy roster. I mean, it is wild to me to think about it, and I'm not picking on it. So if you enjoy it, that's not the part. That's not the point of what I'm getting at. I'm simply saying that entertainment has its tentacles everywhere.
Todd Huff: And it's undeniable that entertainment has been used, and I would say quite effectively. By the way, at shaping the minds of. Well of many Americans, but particularly the minds of young Americans, young unsuspecting Americans who've had their worldview shaped by pop culture and music and movies that provide literally no value. That oftentimes prevent present only garbage. Or again, I'm not one of these people that's going to say, you shouldn't be watching anything violent. I'm not getting into that. I'm saying, but this is what it has to offer. Sexual content, vulgarities.
Todd Huff: Even the comedy I watch. I dvr if that's even the right way to say it today. Episodes of television shows that I still watch. I'll still go back and watch episodes of the Office or episodes of Seinfeld, and some of those are recorded from Comedy Central. And sometimes I can't hit the skip button fast enough. When it shows Jon Stewart a commercial for the Daily show. And sometimes I hear some of his commentary. And I routinely look at my kids if we're watching these things, and I say, I can't believe. How shallow and ridiculous. What he just said is.
Todd Huff: And it's true for virtually whatever the topic of the day is. But this appeals to people because they don't have a base. A base understanding. They've never asked the serious questions, the deep questions that need to be answered. Instead, they've been persuaded or influenced, dare I say manipulated by entertainment, by people who are not there. To tell them the truth, but instead to produce little voters who support the radical left's agenda. And that's what happens, and that's what's happened here. As well. How dare you speak out. About the NBA's agenda here.
Todd Huff: Friends, I got to take a break. But before I do, I've shared with you my pillow. You know, they've been a partner of ours for almost three years now. Actually, maybe almost four, now that I think about it. Several years. Many of you have bought products from them. I'd like to say thank you on behalf of mypillow, on behalf of this program. Thank you for supporting this company, for buying their products. They make great products right here in America. Pillows, sheets, towels, slippers, a whole bunch of things@mypillow.com Use promo code, Todd.
Todd Huff: You're going to get savings on virtually everything there. And you're going to support an American patriot who loves this country and makes this product here. MyPillow.com promo code. Todd, time out for me, my friends. Back in just a minute. Welcome back, my friends. So we're talking about Jaden Ivey. Who has made comments that were critical about the lgbt movement, lgbtqia plus or whatever it is. Movement. And the NBA's decision to promote Pride Month. The Chicago Bulls, if you missed me saying it, released him.
Todd Huff: For conduct detrimental to the team, which appears to mean that he was criticizing the NBA. And the lgbtq movement. So billy donovan, the coach of the bulls, has to address this. This is what he said. I think in this day and age, you have to be conscientious of all these guys. All these guys may be going through. And I'm not passing judgment on what Jaden is. Or wait. Yeah. What Jaden is or is not going through. But I do worry about that, not only for Jaden. But for all of our players.
Todd Huff: Are we providing the resources, which I think we do, to help them in any way we can? I think if any player reached out and said, I need help in this, we could help him. So it's now being positioned as though. Jaden. And listen, I don't know. I don't know. I'm not here to defend. Everything about? I don't know. Jaden, Ivy. I don't know what he's going through. Maybe there are problems that. Require some professional services. I don't know. To say that reaching this conclusion and making this statement is somehow.
Todd Huff: Is somehow just in and of itself a warning sign of someone needing mental health services. I fully hear me say this. One million percent reject that notion. And you better too. My friends. You may disagree with me and think that. Hey. Todd's wrong on the lgbtq movement. Jaden Ivey's wrong on the LGBTQ movement. I suppose you can think that, but you'd be on the wrong side of this. Respectfully, my friends, But to say that this is a sign of mental illness. This is 1984 ish, right? Where you have people who are looking at other people in their community to make sure that they tow the line.
Todd Huff: Let's talk about what the. What pride is. What the pride movement. Is. First of all, let's talk about the perspective that Jade and Ivey was bringing here. Jaden Ivey was talking about this from a Christian perspective. Back, he said. Jesus saved my life. This is in his social media bio. Jesus saved my life. Giving your life to Jesus is the greatest decision you can do. So that's the starting point. So Jaden Ivey professes faith. In. Jesus. Jesus for those again. Oh, man. There's so much misinformation out there about Jesus in our society today.
Todd Huff: But the truth. About jesus is that jesus christ is the son. The bible says. The son of God. He came. He was. He was born of a virgin. He came to this planet. To help restore humanity. To give us a way back to God, you see? God created us. And we decided through pride. By the way, this is the thing. Pride is not a good thing Biblically. Listen. Words mean things and words have been used to manipulate people, you'll find. How many times do you see the left redefining what a word is they redefined or try to redefine what a recession was?
Todd Huff: They've tried to redefine what love is. They've tried to tell us the progressive Christians out there who are listen. I wouldn't want to be standing before God on the Day of Judgment. Saying some of these things that these so called followers of Jesus have been saying from the pulpit and so forth. I don't know if you've seen the clip. There's one clip. Where there's this almost like a. I don't know. Maybe you could say a creed. That they repeat. Where the clergy member is wearing rainbow colors and so forth. It is wild stuff. I mean, it truly is terrifying.
Todd Huff: From a Christian perspective to think that you're really doing things that God is not happy with. We have a movement. It's not just a couple of churches, my friends. Dare I say. Dare I say that this is infiltrated a lot of American churches. I don't want to go as far as to say, all. But. I would say at least there are people. Probably in almost all. I still come short of saying all, because who can never say that. There's probably people in almost all American churches who. Are at least embracing some of these progressive Christian, anti biblical ideas.
Todd Huff: God, listen. God so loved the world, the Bible says that he gave his only son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish. But have eternal life, have everlasting life. And that's what we all desire. We were created not to die, my friends, but to live in perfect harmony and communion with God. But our sin broke that. And then Jesus came to pay the price, to reconcile us, to bridge that divide. Because we couldn't come, we couldn't bridge it ourselves. We became tainted. We became unholy. We became imperfect.
Todd Huff: The only way that that was able to be bridged, that gap, that mighty chasm, was through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He became the sacrificial lamb. If you study the Old Testament and you look at the Old Testament law and the sacrifice and the holy of holies and the and the just, the entire process of what it meant to have the scapegoat, right? This whole. There's a whole. The whole Old Testament talks about this. Talks about the sacrificial system. To bring sacrifices without defect. There's prophecies of Jesus. It's perfectly aligned with those Old Testament practices.
Todd Huff: Jesus became the ultimate fulfillment of that. We've got the Seder meal. It's so beautiful. How wonderful this story is. How perfectly intertwined it is. Between the Old and the New Testament. And it's right there. It is unveiled, the climax of the entire Bible. Old Testament and New Testament is Jesus Christ God coming to this earth. To save his people from their sins and to restore humanity. But that doesn't mean my friends. That God suddenly said, you can do whatever you want. God still has standards. The Bible says God doesn't change.
Todd Huff: And, my friends, I hate to say this. I don't hate to say it. But that's a figure of speech. The truth is. That God is not pro lgbtqia plus whatever. God loves humanity. A person who's in that particular lifestyle committing those particular sins God can forgive. God can forgive any sin. But, my friends, we're not to say this is who I am. And God, I'm going to tell you. I'm going to tell society. I'm going to tell you. I'm going to ignore the fact of how you ordered creation, of how you created them, male and female.
Todd Huff: Right. There's passages in the Bible. That absolutely condemn men lying with men. This is undeniable. There are explanations that progressive Christians try to give, but none of it even comes close to making any sense. What Jade and Ivey said. Now, you may disagree with how he said it. Maybe you think, why is he saying it? You can have all those questions. But jaden ivey is not wrong. In his conclusion. So then on top of that. You have the mba, the NBA that's out there promoting this, promoting pride.
Todd Huff: Friends, pride, again, is not a good thing from a biblical perspective. And by the way, we use the word pride to say, you know what? I'm proud of my work. I'm proud of my son, my daughter, my whatever. Right? I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish. That's not really the biblical definition. Of pride. Of course we can become true proud and think that we're better. Now that's really where you get to pride. You think I'm better than everyone else. Or I should be exalted. I should. As Lucifer wanted to become God, he thought, who's this guy running the show?
Todd Huff: I'm just as good. That's what he thought. Of course he wasn't. That's the great sin is pride. There is nothing. Truly as evil or anti God as a prideful state. Of mind. This is not. A good thing. The biblical idea of pride is not about having some sort of a dignity or just being pleased of what you've been able to accomplish. That's not what it's talking about. It's putting self over God, self exaltation over God. It's rejecting his authority, saying I'M the one who's going to define truth.
Todd Huff: You don't tell me what to do. That's the basis of this Pride of LGBTQIA plus. And friends, hear me say it. I know people will hate this, but it's coming straight from the pits of hell. All right. Now that I've upset half of you, my friends. Gotta take a time out. But let's face it, living with discomfort is tough. Prescription medications can help, but they often come with a long list of side effects, not to mention the risk of dependency. That's why more people are exploring natural options, like kratom from Christopher's Organic Botanicals.
Todd Huff (Sponsor): No synthetics. No chemicals, no surprises. Just honest. Natural kratom that's been used for generations. So you can start after you do your research. If you decide this is a product that I think makes sense for me, start with their Kratom starter pack. Use coupon code Todd huff. You'll save 10% off your first order. Christopher's Organic Botanicals. Com. That's Christopher's Organic Botanicals. Com. Truth, tradition, transparency. And yes. Time out for me, my friends. Back in just a minute.
Todd Huff: Yes, my friends, last segment of the program I have. I told you I was going to step squarely in it today. I truly. Listen, I don't care. I care about people. I care about truth. And you can disagree with me. But if you're going to disagree with me, you better not do so from a biblical text, because that is simply, simply not. What the Bible talks about here as we're talking about. The lgbtqia+ movement. Jaden ivy. NBA player, his comments about this.
Todd Huff: He's been waived from the team of the Chicago Bulls and so forth. We've talked about the biblical concept of pride. Making. By the way, pride is a sort of virtue in this movement. My friends. But anyway, I want to get to wrapping this up. Because you can disagree with whether he should have said it. You could disagree with how he said it, I suppose. But to disagree on the merits of what he said. And how the NBA is candidly using this. Using this movement, lifting it up and as he said it, promoting unrighteousness.
Todd Huff: I. Biblically speaking, he's exactly right. I don't know what else to say. About that. Now, if you're in the LGBT community, if you are a person who struggles with this or knows somebody that has it, listen. I don't think that. Those of us who aren't in the movement are better. That is not at all what I think. Friends hear me say this. There are things about me. That are wrong. There are things about me. And the things that I've done, the attitudes I've had. The things that I've said.
Todd Huff: The behavior I've exhibited that's not consistent with what God expects. It's called sin. And we've all sinned and fallen short of the glory. Of God, the bible says. I'm here to say. Listen, we're not doing anyone. We're not doing anyone any real service by pretending that we can all just continue in our sins. That's the beginning point of Christianity. Repent. Repent means to turn, to turn away from. To basically say I hand over the reins. I'm not the one calling the shots here. I'm not the one determining what's good.
Todd Huff: Right. And everything else. I'm handing those things over to the Creator of the universe. And I'm going to submit to what his word tells me. That's what it means. And I'm going to turn from it. It doesn't mean I'm never going to stumble. I'm never going to. Make another mistake. In fact, Paul says in the Bible that the things I don't want to do, I end up doing, and the things I want to do, I don't do. We're at conflict with ourselves. This is not a personal attack on people in this movement.
Todd Huff: You've heard me talk about people who have had an abortion. I have said abortion is murder. It's taking the life of an unborn child. I also say every time I talk about abortion, That we serve a God who is in the business of forgiving. A God who's in the business of healing. If you serve a biblical God, if you want to know Yahweh, the God of the Bible, through his son Jesus, We serve a God who wants to forgive us. But we have to accept it. We have to admit that we're not God.
Todd Huff: This is kind of an elementary understanding. Elementary principles of Christianity. There is a God, and I'm not Him. In fact, I've done a really bad thing. And I need to be forgiven. And so, God, I'm not in control. I'm not calling the shots. I lay myself down before you and ask for your mercy. And ask that you would cleanse me through the blood of Christ. And he's faithful and just to forgive us. The Bible says of our sins if we do that. But woe to the person who calls evil good.
Todd Huff: The Bible says. My goodness. We're doing that in this culture. And the NBA is promoting unrighteousness. Jaden Ivy is right on that. The NFL. Whoever else does this, by the way. Whoever else promotes the so called pro choice movement. These are not biblical positions. These are lies and distortions straight. From the pits of hell. And we have an obligation to speak the truth in love. And again, if you find yourself in this community or sympathetic to people in that community, listen.
Todd Huff: Love the people in that community. I'm not saying to look upon them as any other sort of citizen or person. But to pretend that the behavior. That the lifestyle is consistent with what God has taught us is through the Bible is patently absurd. And we have to quit pretending that there's any middle road here.
