Todd Talk: Democrats Hold America Hostage Over Filibuster Fight

A 60-second conservative commentary with humor and heart.

Illustrated image of the U.S. Capitol wrapped in chains labeled “Filibuster,” symbolizing government gridlock and calls to restore open debate.

My friends, President Trump is once again calling on the U.S. Senate to nuke the filibuster so the government can reopen. But Senate Majority Leader John Thune says there aren’t enough votes.

The filibuster was supposed to be a tool for the minority to keep debate open — more speech, more discussion, more light on important issues. But that’s not what’s happening now. The tool has been hijacked by those who want to hold the American people hostage in hopes of scoring political points by blaming the majority.

Republicans have the majority, that’s true, but not the super-majority needed to defeat the filibuster.

Democrats are acting like petulant children, shutting things down and hoping it pays off politically. This has to stop so Americans can have a government that works — not one constantly used as a political weapon.
