Todd Talk: Illinois CDL Audit Exposes Government Failure

A 60-second conservative commentary with humor and heart.

Illustrated image of a government building with a large “20% Error Rate” stamp over commercial trucks and school buses, symbolizing the Illinois CDL audit controversy and concerns about government incompetence.

My friends, I firmly believe the level of fraud and incompetence in government would shock the average American. Case in point: an audit of commercial driver’s licenses in Illinois found nearly 20 percent of non-domiciled CDLs in a sample were issued unlawfully.

These are licenses for semis, tractor trailers, and school buses. And Illinois is getting one out of five of them wrong.

Imagine getting your tax return wrong 20 percent of the time. Would the IRS just shrug? Of course not. And we shouldn’t either.

The constitutional role of government is pretty boring. Secure borders. Build roads. Protect Americans. Keep records straight. But too often, politicians chase utopias instead of doing the basics well.

We need our government back in its boring lane. That’s a prerequisite to making America great again.
